Self Introduction

    Jian Feng (1975-), born in Peixian County, Jiangsu Province, received his PHD degree in 2003. He is currently Associate Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, and the Director of Center for Social and Cultural Geography in the College of Urban and Environment Sciences at Peking University. He is also Adjunct Professor of Jiangsu Normal University and Huazhong Normal University, and Deputy Director of Urban Geography Professional Committee, Geographical Society of China. Jian Feng has been appointed as Wuhan special invited expert of innovation and sits on the editorial board of Human Geography and Calligraphy Appreciation. He has published more than 10 books, including The Living Space of Urban China, the Integration of Urban Planning and Land Use Planning: from Technological Innovation to Institutional Innovation, Identification and Monitoring of Boundaries between Rural and Urban Areas, Research on Industrial Supporting System of Development Zone, Spatial Perspective of Urban Society, Restructuring of Urban Internal Space in China in the Transition Period, etc. He has also published over 170 papers in academic journals, including Environment and Planning B, Urban Geography, Regional Studies, Eurasian Geography and Economics, Built Environment, Acta Geographica Sinica (In Chinese), Geographical Research(In Chinese), Scientia Geographica Sinica (In Chinese), City Planning Review(In Chinese), etc. He has presided over 40 projects including ones commissioned by National Natural Science Foundation of China, ones of National Science and Technology Support Program, and various provincial and municipal planning programs. He received the 10th National Youth Geographic Science and Technology Award.


Education and experience

Biography

Dr. Jian Feng is an associate professor of Urban Geography and Urban Planning in the Department of Urban and Economic Geography, College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Peking University.

Dr. Jian Feng received his Ph.D. degree in Human Geography from Peking University, China, 2003 (The tutor is Professor Yixing Zhou); Master degree in Human Geography from Nanjing Normal University, China, 2000; BSc in Geography from Nanjing Normal University, China, 1997.

He became a member of the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Peking University in 2003. He was promoted to associate professor at Peking University in 2006.

 

Research Interests

Dr. Jian Feng’s current research interests include the following aspects.

(1) Urban socio-spatial structure in China (1.Urban social area in China; 2. Social spatial differentiation in Urban China; 3.Restructuring of urban social space in China in the transition period; 4. Spatial structure of urban residents' quality of life.)

(2) Urbanization, suburbanization and urban planning in China (1.Restructuring of Rural China; 2. Division of urban and rural areas in China; 3. Characteristics and mechanism of the development of urban rural fringe and urban village in China; 4. Suburbanization and the development of suburban large residential areas in China; 5. The evolution of urban planning system in China.)

(3) The living space, activity space and criminal space (1.The living space of Urban China; 2. Spatial structure of shopping behavior in Urban China; 3.Activity space in urban village in China; 4. Spatio-temporal structure on urban crime in China; 5. Behavior space of suburban residents.)

Dr. Jian Feng independently undertakes the teaching of three courses, including:
